jotunheimen mountain huts and lodges

The 2026 summer hiking season is open. Here are the opening times of the mountain huts and lodges for this summer season. They are indicative only, make sure to check yourself.

The mountain cabins listed below are those visited when hiking the three Jotunheimen routes in my guidebook ‘Hiking in Norway - South’. Clicking through the image will take you to either the homepage of the hut/lodge, or to the relevant page on ut.no. The dates for the start and end of the summer season 2026 are displayed where available. Advance booking while no longer needed overall, might be necessary for some lodges and advisable for others, particularly if you are hiking in late July/early August in Jotunheimen. The list here includes the mountain huts of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) as well as some privately run huts and lodges. In general as a member of the DNT you will get a discount when staying at these private huts. The huts are displayed in the order that they appear in the guidebook. Note that some huts operate as unserviced huts in low season, but might require the universal DNT key to open during those times. Best to check before you go.

Gjendesheim is staffed and open from June 6, 2026 to October 4, 2026. Advance booking is recommended, but not compulsory.

Gjendebu is open from June 19, 2026 to September 13, 2026 as fully serviced, then from September 16, 2026 to October 15, 2026 as self-serviced (needs the universal DNT key for access). Advance booking is highly recommended in high season, but not compulsory.

Spiterstulen opens from May 29, 2026 to September 27, 2026 . To make a reservation go to booking.

Fondsbu is a fully serviced hut. Open from June 26, 2026 to October 4, 2026. Advance booking highly recommended.

Skogadalsbøen is open from April 06, 2026 to October 15, 2026. During some of these times you require the DNT key for access as the lodge is self-serviced for part of the season, see . Advance booking recommended.

Turtagro Lodge is open on selected long weekends. Inquiry and booking in advance is a must!.

Memurubu is open from June 19, 2026 to September 13, 2026. Advance booking is recommended.

Glitterheim is open from April 12, 2026 to June 19, 2026, as self-service hut. From June 20, 2026 to September 13, 2026 it is fully serviced. September 13, 2026 to October 15, 2026 as self-service hut again (during self-service you need the DNT universal key for access). Advance booking recommended.

Leirvassbu is a fully service hut and open from June 18, 2026 t0 September 13, 2026. Advance booking is recommended.

Olavsbu is open from February 15, 2026 to October 15, 2026. Advance booking is recommended in high season, the hut is self-serviced and requires a DNT key.

Fannaråkhytta is open from June 26, 2026 to August 30, 2026. The hut is very popular and small, the season is short, advance booking is highly recommended at all times.
